Training for professional careers in ballet
For aspiring dancers ages 9 to 19
This two-week program gives serious students ages 9-19 the opportunity to cap off their summer studies and prepare for the season ahead. An internationally illustrious faculty instructs students in technique, pointe, men’s, pas de deux, variations, and modern classes.
Classes will be taught by the distinguished BAE year-round faculty and highly accomplished guest teachers.
The 2017 faculty included Nicholas Ade, Charles Askegard, Maxim Beloserkovsky, Cynthia Birdwell, Olga Dvorovenko, Gonzalo Garcia, Alan Hineline, Darla Hoover, Jenna Lavin, Amos Machanic, Joseph Malbrough, Tara Mora, Allen Peiffer, Renee Robinson, Jonathan Stafford, Elizabeth Walker, Wendy Whelan, and Cheryl Yeager.
The 2018 faculty will be announced in January.
Admission is by audition. Students are placed in levels according to their ability.
Level placement is determined by Artistic Director, Darla Hoover.
Audition dates for the 2018 Summer Intensive will be available soon.
If unable to attend the audition dates, video auditions can be accepted. Students auditioning by video may send a YouTube link or Vimeo link. The audition video should include a short barre and centre work. Centre should consist of adagio, pirouettes en dehors and en dedans, petit allegro, and grand allegro. Ladies, include a pointe work combination, and men, include tour en l’air and à la seconde turns, if level applicable. Video should be maximum 20 minutes.
The video must be fewer than 3 months old.
Include 3 recent photographs showing arabesque, tendu à la seconde, and a headshot. Professional photos are not necessary. Applications cannot be processed unless photos are included.
August 20 – 31, 2018
Classes are held everyday except on Sunday, August, 26.
The daily schedule will include ballet, pointe, variations, pas de deux, men’s class, men’s weight training, stretch, modern, and character classes. Students will receive their class schedule in July.
Any solid-color leotard with pink tights for ballet class and any solid-color leotard with footless tights for modern class. Skirts, sweatpants, leg warmers, and multi-strap or rhinestone-studded leotards are not permitted.

BAE student housing is available at the de Hirsch Residence, which is located one block from the school.
BAE has a fully appointed apartment located near the school, which houses a small number of male students. This housing is in high demand, and availability goes very quickly. Inquiries should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Once you are accepted to the program, we will assist you in securing housing.
The tuition for Levels B-F of the Summer Intensive is $1020. The tuition for the Level A, which is a slightly shorter day, is $890.
Upon notification of acceptance, a payment of 50% of the tuition is due within two weeks. The remaining balance is due by July 1st.
Payments can be made by check or credit card. Cash payments are not accepted. Tuition is non-refundable.
Financial aid scholarships are available to those who qualify. Funds are limited and we recommend that you apply early. In addition to financial aid, Ballet Academy East offers a limited number of full and partial scholarships and housing stipends to male dancers.
